When I tell you I could write a book with all our stories from the road, I’m not kidding! Dave and I set off on this journey and who knew it would take us to places like this. Killeen is a town between Austin and Waco, and the perfect place for our tire to give up on us. Luckily, the local delicacies did not disappoint.
We found a little piece of Hawaii in Texas! Founded by Hensan and Cora Timo in 2004, C&H Hawaiian Grill was one of my favorite stops! You’ll hear me say that a lot, but that doesn’t make it any less true! Hawaiian food in Texas, via Portland, Oregon? Sign me up!
Cora and Hensan had been growing this passion for sharing their food with the world for years, but when their sons enlisted in the United States Army and were assigned to Fort Hood, they decided to take the leap. To make sure their sons never wanted for a home-cooked meal, they moved from Portland, Oregon and opened their first restaurant.
On the 10-year anniversary of the opening, they unveiled their second location.
Their passion is sharing the “Aloha” spirit with the community through their favorite foods and they’ve been doing it for over 15 years!
This is what I love about our road trip so much. I expected some great BBQ and Tex-Mex, and boy did we get it. But to get authentic, family-style Hawaiian food when flying out may not be in the plans was a wonderful surprise!
